Year-End Plumbing Inspection Checklist

Home Improvement

The days go by so quickly. It’s way past the second quarter when people start to realize that the year is ending. No matter how late in the year you notice that it’s almost January, don’t get caught up with the pressure. Do something productive instead, and one of them is having a checkup of your kitchen and bathroom to make sure the fixtures are working well. This way, you can ensure the safety of your family from unexpected plumbing problems.

Faucet

The first thing to check in your home plumbing system is the most simple fixture of all – the faucet. Come to think of it. The faucet has a straightforward mechanism. It does just one thing, which is to provide water to our household when needed. But do you know that contrary to what we all think, the faucet’s function is not to make water flow but to stop it from flowing? fore, check your faucet at least before the year ends and make sure that it’s working properly.

Toilet bowl

I think most of us will agree that toilet bowl choke is one of the worst problems that you can ever encounter at home. The thought of a clogged toilet bowl already brings back memories that you wouldn’t want to be reminded of. If this is something none of us would like to experience, why do homes keep having a clogged toilet bowl problem? It’s because homeowners are not preventive when it comes to their toilet bowl upkeep. We only pay attention to our toilet bowl when someone screams and says, “Our toilet bowl is clogged!”

Do something different this time. Inspect your toilet bowl even without noticing any problem. Check the levers and the pipes underneath if they show signs of leaking or rusting. Flush the toilet bowl and intentionally observe if the water drains slowly. If it does, use a plunger or hire a plumber to check what’s going on.

P-trap

The p-trap is that series of pipes underneath the sink where some stuff that you drain in the sink gets stuck. P-trap issues cause the majority of sink clogging problems. It would be great to inspect or clean the p-trap before the year ends to keep it from clogging. Make an expert plumber does this for you so he can put the components back in order after the cleaning.

Showerhead and water heater

Have you ever experienced showering with sediments coming out of your shower head? That’s because of the damaged anode inside your water heater. If your heater is composed of steel components, and you haven’t inspected or repaired it for a while, chances are, the parts inside are already not okay. They’ve probably developed rust and cement inside. Before the year ends, have it inspected by a professional plumber.

Kitchen sink drain and bathroom floor drain

Lastly, check your kitchen sink drain and bathroom floor drain too. Just like the faucet, these are the most used parts of our plumbing system. They develop clogs so quickly when not used carefully. Imagine the dirt piled up and the damage that these drains have gone through for the whole 12 months. There are simple ways to clean the sink and drain both in your bathroom and kitchen. Do them regularly all throughout the year and get these important plumbing fixtures inspected by the end of the year.
