Start a blog. Create a blog and post daily for a year, reach 5,000 views. Achieved! I posted all but two days this past year, despite all the business and challenges of everyday life. As for view count, I’m at over 600,000.
WikiRandom. Set homepage to Wikipedia Random Page, so every time I open my browser I can learn something new. Semi-successful. I did this for awhile, but got bored with it within a month or two.
Travel. Travel throughout the United States and to several major world regions. Welll… I went to Flagstaff, AZ and Los Angeles, CA. I’m hoping for bigger and better travel adventures in the coming year.
Learn more about spirituality: Read the basic texts of the major religions, visit places of worship. Be open-minded and take what I can away from each. Semi-successful. I visited a Buddhist temple and have read about a few different religions and spirituality in the broader sense.
Learn a new language. Subscribe to a language learning podcast, read language-learning books, attend a language club to practice. Next year it’ll happen. I’ve taken Spanish, so I started off the year practicing, but it’s hard to commit to something with seemingly little practical application.
Microlending. Loan money to an entrepreneur through Kiva.org. Success! I’ve made 4 loans through Kiva this past year, relending money as it was paid back. Beyond being a goal on some silly list, it is a neat and fulfilling program to be involved with.
Acquire at least three new skills. Become functionally proficient, not necessarily an expert. Attempted. I got a camera, gardened, dug out and purchased more arts and craft stuff, started an acting class, attempted to teach myself piano, but nothing that I really enjoyed. Unless you count fiction writing – maybe that’s my new skill.
Read 52 book over the course of the year. Major success! Also, my favorite accomplishment. 52 sounded out-of reach a year ago, but I trumped that goal, reading over 70 books in 365 days.
Stay in shape. Eat healthy, join a gym, spend time doing things outdoors. Attempted. Thanks to good genes, I’ve never had much of an incentive to exercise. I took a cardio class, as well as a yoga class (both of which I enjoyed) and already eat pretty healthily. But I still feel no motivation to transition from “naturally skinny” to “natural skinny and athletic” – maybe next year.
Toastmasters. Attend a Toastmasters class. Become comfortable with basic presentation and public speaking skills. That did not happen. It is something I would like to do at some point in the near future.
Become a better writer. Practice writing daily, learn new vocabulary, read different styles of writing. Success? Considering how much writing, the variation of writing, and the reading I’ve done over the past year, I like to believe that I’ve developed my writing skills.
Perform random acts of kindness. Donate time and money, take advantage of every opportunity to do nice things for others. Send people hand-written notes. Done! This was another favorite goal. It’s amazing how good it feels to do something nice for someone else, and it’s wonderful seeing their reactions.
Finances. Learn how to manage finances, budget money, and invest. Fail. I have very little interest in money. I live minimally and don’t spend money I don’t have and that work well enough for now.

Great statistics for your blog! You deserve it!
Wonderful achievements, Erin! All the very best in 2012!
I’m still quite jealous of your 600k+ views. Congratulations.
A very good year, judged strictly through achievement rate! You have plenty to be proud of.
BTW, about finances: I believe that not spending money that you don’t have it’s a very good habit, especially in periods of uncertainty, as the one we are in…
Honestly, when first time reading your objective list I thought it’s very ambitious and difficult to reach. But you did great!
I wish you that 2012 will be much, much better!
Congratulations on doing so well in your goals – especially your reading and phenomenal success with yout blog!
Thanks everyone!!
Wow! 600 K, I am impressed/I sort of hate you.
Just kidding. =) Sounds like a wonderful year!
That’s so great!! I wrote my year’s goals somewhere and have no clue where they are… LOL! I guess mine should be to try and keep better track of things in 2012!
Keep up the good work Erin! Happy New Year

Hi Erin, Great blog, very motivational! You make me feel like such a slug! : P
I always used a motto in my management, similar to your image above that goes: “A dream is just a wish unless you make some plans to attain it”. Congrats on making some good plans in accomplishing your goals in 2011.
Now, about that micro-lending…my dream is to own and operate a B&B….whaddya think? Can you help?
All the best to you in 2012 Erin,
~Andy
Thank you Andy! Don’t feel like a slug. The more goals you set and the more time you invest into them, the more you’ll achieve. I think I accomplished so much because I placed the bar “out of reach” or so I thought a year ago.
Well, I’m fresh out of college and barely making enough to feed myself, but stick around and in a few year when I’ve (hopefully) got some extra cash, I would love to help you achieve your dream!
All the best to you, Andy!
Oh I was joking about the money, referencing your Kiva.org link above. But I will have a special post for you and others your age on my post next Tuesday. Stay tuned…
I figured as much, but I sincerely would love to help fund businesses and help people reach their dreams. I’m looking forward to that post!
so is there going to be a goal list for 2012? or just a continuation of the ones you did not get to last year?
Yes, there most certainly will be! I already have a good start on it, just need to think if there’s anything else I’d like to add before posting it.
